Anubhav Deka (b. 1997) is a multidisciplinary artist and writer working between the Indian Northeastern Himalayas, Assam, Delhi, and Goa, currently situated and working out of London.

His main loci of work is in how the act of remembrance houses the human condition and its expression. Anubhav also doesn’t like writing biographies and will stop typing in the third person after this line.

Vacillating between past, present, and future, my inquiries into memory take nebulous forms on mirrors, glass, metal, skin, and paper. Letters, digits, transistors, code, print, sound and scent become building blocks to form installations that invite an exchange of ideas. Essays, eyeballs and touch are the final garnish. In these spaces, both my work and I stand apart, operating only as facsimiles of each other.

Inspiration often arrives in the hands of a particular sunbeam that most of us humans are familiar with, and often in the most inopportune times, such as in the pages of colonial books (or any books), gendered (and non-gendered) histories, sonic libraries from different parts of the world and in the visual texture that permeates human history. I am very interested in where these human practices lie within the grander perspective of geological time, and as such, my work is deeply influenced by ecology.

I am continuously building my practice towards a response at this scale, and always welcome a conversation on any topics under and above the sun.
